Nicolas Otamendi is an Argentine professional footballer born on 12th February 1988. He plays as a centre-back for Argentina national team and the Primeira Liga team Benfica. 

The defender debuted in 2009 and since then he has represented his country in two World cups and four Copa America tournaments. 

Current form:- The centre-back Argentine footballer plays in Portugal leagues. In Liga Portugal, he made 11 appearances with no goals. He made four appearances in champions league qualifiers with one goal to his name. And in the champions league, the former made 6 appearances and assisted once. 

World Cup record:- Otamendi was called into the senior National team in 2009 when Maradona was the coach of Argentina. He featured in the team for the 2010 FIFA qualifiers. As a centre-back alongside Martin Demichelis, the team faced defeat 0-2. The 1-0 victory over Uruguay sealed their position in the world cup. On 19 th may he got his first call for the world cup. 

Otamendi played the round of 16 games against Mexico which Argentina won by 3-1. His final appearance in the tournament was against Germany where they lost 4-0.

Apart from being out of the squad selected for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Otamendi got included in the 2015 Copa America. He played in the 2016 Copa America in which they lost against Chile in the final shootout. 

Otamendi was included in the 2018 World Cup squad. In June 2021 he was alongside Lionel Messi's squad for the Copa America which ultimately was won by Argentina. 

Overall stats:- He started off his career with Valez Sarsfield  and made 54 appearances. Next, he played for Porto in premier league games and 124 appearances with ten goals to his name. He then played for Valencia, and Manchester City and is currently playing with Benfica. He made 103 appearances for Benfica and has 2 goals to his name.

In the 14 years of his career with his country, he made 92 appearances and has scored 4 times being a centre-back.
