Yasser bin Gharsan bin Saeed Al-Mohammadi Al-Shahrani is a football player from Saudi Arabia who plays left back or center back for Al-Hilal and the Saudi Arabia national team.
After making a strong impression in the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where he scored against Guatemala, he transferred from Al-Qadisiyah to Al-Hilal in 2012. Alongside Lionel Messi, he appeared on the FIFA 16 official Middle Eastern cover.
Current Form
He was in fine touch entering the world cup having played two matches at club level in the Saudi Pro league. One of the most seasoned defenders in the Saudi Arabian back line is Yasser Al-Shahrani, whose presence in Qatar will be essential to contain aggressive rivals like Argentina and Poland.
World Cup Record
In May 2018, he was nominated to Saudi Arabia's final 23-man team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He was included in Saudi Arabia's 23-person final roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar in November 2022.
When he collided with his goalkeeper during their 2-1 victory over Argentina in the opening game, he fractured his jaw, facial bones, and teeth and required immediate surgery because of internal bleeding. Yasser was flown to Germany for medical attention on orders from Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman. Although Al-Shahrani has not yet been officially disqualified from the World Cup, it seems likely that his tournament will end.
Club Career
He earlier played for Al-Qadisiyah before being transferred to Al-Hilal in 2012. Since then, he has been an integral part of the team and has won the Saudi Pro League five times and the Asian Champions League twice.
