In a recent survey conducted by Florida International University (FIU), a significant shift in the political preferences of Hispanic voters in the United States has been brought to light. The study, encompassing 1,221 registered voters in the 22 states with the highest Hispanic population, indicates a noteworthy change in sentiment ahead of the 2024 presidential elections.
Contrary to expectations, neither President Joe Biden nor former President Donald Trump is the preferred choice for the majority of Hispanic voters. Support for Biden has declined from 67% in 2020 to 53% today, while Trump, though still unpopular, has experienced a slight increase in support from 29% to 33%. This shift suggests evolving priorities and a decline in support for the Democratic Party within the Hispanic community.
What makes these findings particularly impactful is the revelation that 52.9% of Hispanic voters believe the country is heading in the wrong direction. Concerns about inflation, the economy, and unrestricted immigration have become focal points, reflecting deep-seated anxieties about the nation's trajectory.
FIU experts stress the need for both political parties to invest more effort in understanding and addressing the needs of the Hispanic community, whose influence on the nation's political landscape is on the rise.
