The Dancing Plague of 1518: In July of 1518, a woman named Frau Troffea began dancing in the streets of Strasbourg, France. Within a week, 34 people had joined her, and within a month, the number had grown to over 400. Many of the dancers eventually collapsed from exhaustion and died, and the cause of the outbreak remains a mystery. Some theories suggest that it may have been caused by a collective hysteria or a toxic chemical, but no definitive explanation has been found.
The Winchester Mystery House: Located in San Jose, California, the Winchester Mystery House is a mansion built by Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Winchester. Sarah believed that the house was haunted by the spirits of people killed by Winchester rifles, and she spent 38 years constantly adding to and remodeling the house in an attempt to confuse the ghosts. The house contains numerous odd features, such as doors that open onto walls and staircases that lead to nowhere.
The Mothman: In 1966, a series of strange sightings were reported in the Point Pleasant area of West Virginia. Witnesses claimed to have seen a creature with glowing red eyes and wings, which became known as the Mothman. The sightings were accompanied by other strange phenomena, including UFO sightings and unexplained animal deaths, and many people believe that the Mothman was a harbinger of disaster. In December of that year, the Silver Bridge collapsed, killing 46 people, and some people believe that the Mothman was somehow responsible.
