Certain foods should be avoided in the postnatal diet especially if you are breastfeeding.
Here are some of them -
➡️Caffeine.
Excessive caffeine intake can interfere with sleep and cause dehydration, which can be particularly challenging for breastfeeding moms who require adequate hydration. It is best to limit caffeine intake to 1-2 cups per day.
➡️Alcohol.
Alcohol can pass through breast milk and affect the baby’s brain development. It is recommended to avoid alcohol while breastfeeding or limit intake to an occasional drink.
➡️Processed foods.
Processed foods such as packaged snacks, sugary drinks, and fast food are often high in calories, sugar, and unhealthy fats. They lack essential minerals and can contribute to postpartum weight gain.
➡️Fish high in mercury.
Certain fish such as shark, swordfish, and king mackerel are high in mercury, which can affect the baby’s brain development. It is recommended to avoid these fish or limit intake to once a month.
➡️Spicy foods.
Spicy foods can cause digestive issues and discomfort for both the mother and baby.
➡️Allergenic foods.
If the baby shows any signs of food allergies, it is best to avoid allergenic foods such as peanuts, tree nuts, and shellfish.
