Former Punjab DGP, Dinkar Gupta has been appointed as chief of National Investigation Agency, which was created to probe terror cases following the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
Gupta was removed as Punjab DGP following the ouster of Captain Amarinder Singh as chief minister. His wife, Vini Mahajan, also a 1987 batch IAS officer was chief secretary of Punjab during captain's tenure. Both were removed when Charanjit Singh Channi took over as CM of the state.
As of now CRPF chief Kuldeep Singh wad looking after charge of NIA for over a year as additional responsibility. The NIA didnt have a regular chief since the retirement of YC Modi in May last year.
In a second order, the cabinet committee on Appointments has appointed Swagat Das as special secretary (internal security) in the home ministry. Das was till now, special director in Intelligence Bureau.
