Former Ranji player Nagraju Budumuru has been arrested from his native place for duping 60 companies. He impersonated as Andhra Pradesh CM’s personal assistant and duped an electronics company for Rs. 12 lakhs. After investigation from the police, he was arrested from Yavaripetta which is situated in the Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh.
Budumuru impersonated as Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Personal Assistant and called an employee of an electronics company, asking them to sponsor a cricket player. He even emailed the company fake documents to show that he was part of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The company paid Rs. 12 lakhs to him and after not receiving any response, it filed a complaint.
According to the police, Budumuru has duped over 60 companies since 2018 and has defrauded amount worth Rs. 3 crore till date. The police have recovered approximately Rs. 7.6 lakh from him so far and further investigation is in process.
The police have confirmed that the player for whom Budumuru was asking money was Ricky Bhui. Ricky Bhui is one of the promising cricketers in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The right-handed batter was part of the 2014 and 2016 ICC Under 19 World Cups. Bhui has played two IPL games so far.
Nagraju was selected in the Ranji Trophy squad of the Andhra Pradesh in the year 2014. He showed great promise in his early years of cricket but failed to emulate his performances for his senior state side as he was dropped after two years. He was also member of the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s squad but the opportunity never arrived.
According the report from the cybercrime division, Budumuru hit rock bottom in 2018 after failing to live up to his potential. He was accustomed to the luxurious lifestyle that he was living till then. He started fooling people to fulfill his ambitions. To live a luxurious life became his primary motive and it resulted in him ending behind the bars.
