The '83' movie based on the life of India's first cricket world cup winning captain Kapil Dev & the victorious team is scheduled to be relased On December 24, 2021.
Bollywood's Ranveer Singh & Deepika Padukone starrer movie '83' has brought Chandigarh -- The city of legendary cricketer Kapil Dev -- into limelight.
Kapil Dev started his cricketing career in Chandigarh under the guidance of Dronacharya awardee coach late DP Azad and DAV College, Sector 10, being a North India's cricketing hub in those days, played an important role in Kapil's career.
He was the student of the DAV College (1976-79 batch) when he got his first call for international cricket. He made his One Day International debut on October 1, 1978, against Pakistan and in the same month he made his Test debut and that too against Pakistan.
The college also had a credit of producing another cricket world cup winning player Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup winning team and was 'Man Of The Tournament' in 2011 World Cup, which too India won.
Yuvraj's father Yograj, who was also a Test player, was also a student of DAV College.
Nigerian football star Emeka Ezeugo, the only footballer who made his professional debut in India and then went on to play in FIFA World Cup, is a product of DAV College. The college provided him a launching pad for a professional debut with Kolkata giants East Bengal and later he played in 1988 Olympics & 1994 FIFA World Cup.
India's first golfer to play in the European tour Jeev Milkha Singh was also a DAV College student.
India's latest sporting sensation Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra (javelin) and Tokyo Paralympics silver medalist high jumper Nishad Kumar were also the products of DAV College.
In the recently held National Sports Award function, a former student of DAV College Sarkar Talwar was conferred with the highest coaching honour - Dronacharya Award.
The Chandigarh's DAV College has the privilege of achieving the country's all the sports honour. It's students & alumni have been part of the India's sporting milestones, from cricket world cup to Olympic gold medal.
