Heads of state, gathered for the G20 Summit's concluding session centered on 'One Future,' made a poignant visit to Raj Ghat on a rain-soaked Sunday morning to pay their respects to Mahatma Gandhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly received each leader at the memorial, presenting them with a Khadi angavastram (stole) against the backdrop of Bapu Kuti, Gandhi's dwelling near Wardha, Maharashtra, from 1936 until his passing in 1948.

Modi took the opportunity to explain the significance of Bapu Kuti, the humble mud cottage considered Gandhi's final abode.

Between 8 am and 9 am, numerous G20 leaders arrived at the memorial complex, where a black marble platform marks the spot of Gandhi's last rites on January 31, 1948, and features an eternal flame.

Prominent figures such as UN Secretary-General António Guterres, IMF head Kristalina Georgieva, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong were among the early arrivals. Notable leaders paying homage to Gandhi included US President Joe Biden, UK PM Rishi Sunak, Italian PM Georgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, Brazilian President Lula De Silva, and Japanese PM Fumio Kishia, among others. However, Saudi Arabia's Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan were notably absent.

At 9 am, the leaders, led by PM Modi, walked barefoot to the main memorial to lay a wreath at Gandhi's Samadhi, accompanied by live renditions of his beloved devotional songs. Following this heartfelt tribute, the leaders moved to Bharat Mandapam for a tree-planting ceremony with saplings imported from 17 countries, including 10 G20 member countries and seven others.

The summit's third and concluding session, titled 'One Future,' followed this meaningful series of events.
