Now G20 Summit was a successful event and now as its over, the lack of post event maintenance and security had led to thefts and damage of decorative items.
It has been reported that many items, including decorative pots and other beautification items, have been stolen from several spots in the city. Many other items have been found damaged. The city police is said to have received complaints about stolen and damaged items. Most of the complaints of thefts and damage have come from the New Delhi district.
Bharat Mandapam and Lutyens Delhi were beautified in a pompous manner by Public Works Department (PWD) and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to welcome the foreign guests. For this purpose, many fountains, lights and other items were installed in different parts of Delhi. The complaints to police now claim that many of these items were stolen and others were found damaged (like flower pots), said a report in Indian Express.
Lights installed at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg near ITO and Sarai Kale Khan flyover were found damaged, the report said citing an officer. However, the official clarified that it isn’t yet known whether the items were deliberately damaged or it was accidental. The damaged flower pots have been removed by authorities concerned from New Delhi-South Delhi and Sarai Kale Khan-Noida stretch.
Some other lights have been stolen or found damaged near Lodi Road, Mathura Road and Ring Road stretches, officials said. The report further said that several nozzles have been found missing from Bharat Mandapam. According to police, no FIRs have been filed in case of thefts as the stolen items were of ‘nominal value’.
