Geographical Indications...
Geographical indications or GI tags is the name or sign used on certain products which corresponds to a specific geographical location or origin. It comes under Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999.
The GI tag ensures that none other than those registered as authorised users (or at least those residing inside the geographic territory) are allowed to use the popular product name.
For example Darjeeling tea is India's first GI tag and if the same tea species is grown somewhere else then it will not be known as Darjeeling tea. Some other examples are Rosogolla from West Bengal, Neem and Turmeric are registered under India, Kota Doris from Rajasthan, etc.
