Graham Reid of Australia was selected as the head coach of India's men's hockey squad in 2019. The 57-year-old filled a job that had been empty for over three months following Harendra Singh's firing in January following a World Cup quarter-final elimination in 2018.
Graham Reid lives with his wife Julia and two children named Scott and Emma. He reconnected with Chris Ciriello, India's assistant coach, who used to be one of Reid's teammates on the Australian squad. Reid has a distinguished playing career as an Australian defender. He was a member of the silver medal-winning Australian team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, as well as the group that won back-to-back Champions Trophy titles in 1984, 1985, 1989, and 1990. However, the coaching career is more significant than the playing career. Reid's first experience working with a national team came in 2009 when he was named Australia's assistant coach. He was in charge for five years until being promoted to the top spot in 2014. During his tenure, he led Australia to its sixth consecutive Champions Trophy victory in 2012. He was also the Kookaburras' coach at the 2016 Rio Olympics, although he resigned when they failed to finish on the podium.
Graham was inducted into the Queensland Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015. The Indian Men's Hockey Team won a Bronze Medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, bringing pride to the entire country. While the team's 5-4 victory over Germany was a historic move as the team entered the Indian Men's Hockey team and brought home a medal after 41 years. Reid's most recent assignment prior to India was in the Netherlands. He relocated to Amsterdam in 2017 to become the head coach of Amsterdam Club. He most recently served as an assistant coach for the Netherlands, which won silver at the 2018 Men's World Cup.
