Granit Xhaka leaves Arsenal after 7 years at the club

‘Granit Xhaka, we’ve got…’ was ringing around the Emirates on the 28th May as Granit’s departure to Bayer Leverkusen seemed imminent.

Over a months later, one of Arsenal’s longest servants, departs the club.

A player who divided opinion, and one where public narrative often portrayed how he was rated.

After the incident vs Crystal Palace a few years ago, it seemed inconceivable that he’d not only become an integral part of the Gunners & appreciated as that, but would be completely lauded on what was his final game for the club with chants of ‘Granit Xhaka, we want you to stay’.

The negative noise, was often very agenda led and reputation based.

A player who gave everything for the club, was especially reliable in the big games, scoring against every one of the traditional Top 6 besides from Manchester City…

Durable, sustainable, a player who continued to evolve, playing as a fullback, a double pivot player where he’s especially effective, and now an 8, occupying positions of a second striker.

An incredibly intelligent player, who knew where to be, a superb passer of the ball, with a vicious strike on him.

A leader, a fantastic influence, and one who despite unfortunately not ending with a Premier League title, ends with a fanbase appreciation, of what a great player this man is.

Bayer Leverkusen, will be acquiring his services for £21m, a fee which is very worthwhile for the Germans, and is also a great sale for Arsenal, as they move onto the next chapter, of Declan Rice.

The German outfit are getting a superb duel winner, hyper intelligent player, who deserves every bit of success.

He leaves with 2 FA Cups, and a community shield, as a cult hero.

The very best of luck to Granit, a move which suites both parties. A fantastic skillset, and one which is even more suited in Germany.
