Indian Jewellery are sheer masterpieces, an exquisite art form, an artist's expression of cultural values and beauty. Now add sweets to jewellery, and what we get is pure perfection. Such is the Halwa Dagine, the traditional art of jewellery making hailing from Maharashtra.
Halwa Dagine involves making intricate and delicate jewellery pieces like necklaces, bracelets and earrings. These are made from thin strands of sugar which are moulded by hands. It is made from a
paste of sesame, sago and sugar.
These sugar jewellery form excellent gifts for weddings, festivals and even for newborns. However, it is really saddening to see the decline in the art's popularity. It is time we realize that if not tended with
care, we may lose this beautiful art completely.
