Happy 86th birthday to former West Indies fast bowler Sir Wesley Hall.
People who have seen him bowl claim that he used to have one of the longest runs in the history of the game. Despite that run-up, he once bowled for over three hours from one end without a change, finishing with 4 for 93 after bowling 40 overs during a Test match played at Lord’s.
He is the first West Indian fast bowler to claim a Test hat trick when he achieved the feat against Pakistan in 1959. Despite having a polarising body stature and lethal bowling skills, it was said he never intended to hurt a batsman, and as a matter of fact, he was afraid to do so. Yet he went on to claim 192 Test wickets with his sheer bowling class.
