Happy birthday, Test cricket!

On this day in 1877, the first day of Test match cricket was played. These players didn't know they were Test cricketers at the time - the game was only retrospectively awarded Test match status.

The game took place at the MCG and was England v Australia - the Australian side officially being a 'Combined New South Wales and Victoria XI' at the time.

Pictured here are the England squad who toured Australia that year. And a word for Ted Pooley, who was due to keep wicket for England. He didn't make the game... because he was arrested in New Zealand for assault relating to a gambling scam! He was later found not guilty.
