As we celebrate the Pride Day today, celebrating the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City, I want to address the misconceptions and prejudices we often carry in our hearts and minds towards the people who identify themselves with the LGBTQIA+.
Some of us say that they respect the LGBTQ community, while some openly talk about them with disrespect and contempt. So this message is for those who still have some difficulty in accepting that it's normal. It's normal to love someone from the same gender. It's normal for someone to love or get attracted to people from different genders at the same time. It's normal for someone to identify themselves with a different identity after they become conscious of themselves and their surroundings, and understand the world better. It's normal for someone to not identify with the sex assigned to them at birth, and explore their identity, their interests, their inclinations.
Let Them Be.
What's not normal is you calling them sick, you calling their love a disease, something that should be cured by a doctor or a godly person. You think it did not exist in your time. You think it is a fashion these days, that your children are getting influenced and misleaded. No. They are not getting misleaded. They are identifying themselves. Their personalities. Their gender. Their sex. Theri interests. Their Own Selves.♥️
The truth is, that this was very much present in your times. But the people then did not have much support or recognition from others that they could stand out in the society which considered it a sin and evil, a pollutant for the mankind.
I do not expect you to change your mentality in a single day. But you can at least try? You should at least try. Those who are around you and who identify themselves with LGBTQIA+ are Normal. They are just as normal as you and me and any other human being. And they should have all the rights the rest of us have. Right to a life equal in all respects. Right to live and love with their heads held high.
