FRANCE — Did any of you watch "My Octopus Teacher" that came out a few years ago? The title definitely sounds a bit odd. I initially thought it might be a kids movie about a substitute teacher who turns out to be an octopus in disguise.
But it's a beautiful film about the interaction between humans and nature. And it features some of the most surreal underwater scenes ever filmed (like when the octopus escaped a hungry shark by hiding on top of it).
I actually thought of "My Octopus Teacher" when I saw this clip.
This took place while a group of divers were collecting garbage from the sea in France. Plastic bottles make up a lot of such debris, so they were removing many bottles throughout the day. One bottle was about to be thrown away when the diver noticed a tiny octopus stuck inside.
After the octopus was freed from its plastic prison, the creature stayed with the diver for a time. Was it expressing gratitude for its rescue? Or was it simply trying to stay away from predators?
Who knows. The only thing that's apparent from the video is: miniature octopuses are adorable and deserve to be rescued.
