He is a former West Indies pacer who also played for Middlesex over a decade during the 1970s and 80s. Known to have a long run-up, he had to run on the spot to stimulate his run-up while playing for the John Player League since the tournament had limited bowler run-ups.
During his international career for the West Indies, he took 36 Test wickets at an average of 25.27 and 23 ODI wickets at an average of 25.86. Participation in world series cricket and the sheer amount of fast bowling talent the West Indies had at the time limited his international career. However, at first-class level, he took 867 wickets at an average of 22.47 in addition to 362 list A wickets at an average of 18.16, which he achieved while playing for Barbados, Middlesex, and Western Australia.
Here's wishing a very happy birthday to former West Indies pacer Wayne Daniel. The Black Diamond is turning 68 today.
