Amazing
Now, Forrest Gump sits on a bench with his ever-wondering eyes and child-like face narrating his story– a life like a chocolate box full of chocolates – you don’t know what you are going to get. After two and half hours of long watch, you know how precious that chocolate box is. When the school entry was tough for a gimpy boy with an IQ of 75, his mother skilfully earned a public school entry in Alabama where they lived smartly renting rooms of their big house for those living on their ‘cases’. Mrs.Gump is always ready with brilliant answers to her low-IQ son’s questions - son, don’t allow anyone to see you differently. Forrest is always proud of his mother’s smartness. He never questions her.
The only other in his life is Jenny, a sweet voice he heard on a school bus where all others bully him. Jenny made him ‘a wind’ when he faced the next boyhood bullying. Run Forrest.. Run! And he ran breaking his leg braces. They were like peas and carrots. A beautiful childhood friend he could never shed in his life even after facing soft rejections from her. At the end of every denial, Jenny sees that innocent boy in school uniform who always wanted her around. Their bumping and re-bumping continue across places and finally ends up in a marriage. But Jenny was dying handing another sweet chocolate to him.
The only thing Forrest pursued in his life is Jenny. Everything else just happened in a flow. He didn’t make his destiny as taught by his mother but destiny walked him through many roles - an army man in the Vietnam war who met many presidents of the country, a rich shrimping boat owner, a runner, then a cross-country runner, a ping-pong champion, a motivator to his captain, -Indeed he made his mother proud who closed eyes before him advising- death is part of life which helped him settle with Jenny’s death.
I am left with no words to express how Tom Hanks lived Forrest. His Oscar and five other Oscars bagged by this film speak better.
