Hello, my name is Isha, and I'm a student in 12th grade. I was chosen for a special project called "ABHAYA" that the Delhi Police and NCPCR-Shakti launched.
It's a unique training programme that involves developing physical stamina, soft skills, proper nutrition advice, gynec concerns, adolescents, etc.
This certifiable training program allows the slum girls to shine and can become excellent leaders.
From July 20 to July 28, we participated in a programme where we learned a variety of skills, including self-defense, information on the menstrual cycle, public speaking, appropriate and inappropriate touch, and many other things.
It was a wonderful experience of my life, and I'm overjoyed that it only took a week for all of these changes to occur.
Even I used to feel nervous and hesitant to make eye contact with any man, anytime I went to any grocery store or anywhere else, because ladies and girls in our region don't feel safe and they aren't permitted to stay out after 8 o'clock.
But now that I know how to protect myself on my own, I feel confident and am no longer afraid of anything. I feel like not only me but I can also defend any other girl who might need my help.
Every woman and every girl, in my opinion, should learn self defence and be capable of defending herself.
