On December 13, His Holiness the Dalai Lama was honored with an Official State Luncheon at Samman Bhawan, the Chief Minister of Sikkim’s residence. The next morning, a warm send-off in Gangtok preceded his journey by helicopter to Salugara, West Bengal, where he was invited to teach at Sed-Gyued Monastery.
Welcomed by Tashi Shölpa and Snow Lion dancers, His Holiness was greeted with traditional offerings at the monastery's gate. Inside, the richly decorated temple hosted a vibrant crowd of 30,000. Addressing the assembly, His Holiness stressed the importance of secular ethics and fostering peace of mind. He emphasized that compassion and humanity, not weaponry, are the keys to lasting world peace.
Reflecting on the unity of humanity, he urged the crowd to overcome divisions, emphasizing that cherishing love and affection fosters peace. Advocating the cultivation of warm hearts, His Holiness underscored the need to think of others as equals, regardless of differences. He concluded with teachings on bodhichitta and the mantra Om mani padme hung, emphasizing their transformative power when put into practice. The event ended with prayers for His Holiness's long life, marking the culmination of an impactful visit.
