This morning, His Holiness the Dalai Lama drove to the International Convention Centre in Bodhgaya for the inaugural session of the first International Sangha Forum (ISF). Members of the organizing committee welcomed him as Mönpas from Arunachal Pradesh celebrated his arrival with traditional dance.
Moderator Ven Mahayano Aun paid homage to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, setting the tone for three days of discussions on the role of Buddhism in the 21st century. A diverse assembly, including representatives from Theravadin, Sanskrit, and various Buddhist traditions, joined the forum.
The session included recitations of Buddhist scriptures, and a symbolic lighting of a wisdom lamp by His Holiness and other leaders. Discussions emphasized the importance of cultivating compassion, peace of mind, and wisdom to address global challenges.
His Holiness emphasized the core values of altruism and cultivating bodhichitta, encouraging attendees to reflect on these principles. Representatives from different Buddhist traditions expressed gratitude and shared insights, fostering dialogue and understanding.
As the ISF unfolds in the birthplace of Buddhism, it serves as a platform for diverse voices to explore the timeless teachings of the Buddha and their relevance in navigating the complexities of the modern world.
