Hollywood is mourning the loss of iconic actor Richard Roundtree. Roundtree was best known for his starring role in the 1971 film *Shaft*, which made him the first Black action hero. He reprised the role in two sequels, and also starred in a number of other films and television shows throughout his career.
Roundtree's death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from his colleagues and fans. Samuel L. Jackson, who starred in the 2000 remake of *Shaft*, called Roundtree "the prototype, the best to ever do it." Viola Davis said that Roundtree was "a true icon and pioneer." And Denzel Washington said that Roundtree "paved the way for so many of us."
In an interview with a news outlet, Roundtree's longtime manager, Patrick McMinn, said that the actor was "a dream to work with."
"He was always professional, always prepared, and always kind," McMinn said. "He was also a great role model for young Black actors. He showed them that it was possible to achieve success in Hollywood, even in the face of discrimination."
Roundtree's death is a major loss for the entertainment industry. He was a talented actor who paved the way for other Black actors to succeed. He will be deeply missed.
