On World Education Day, Amnesty International released responses from Afghan girls deprived of education, posing the question: "How do you feel about being prohibited from education?"
One of the girls said, "My dreams are shattered."
Another student expressed, "I have lost my hope."
A girl deprived of school shared, "I am afraid."
One of these girls urged, "The whole world should raise our voices."
Amnesty International, by sharing these statements, called on the Taliban to "immediately and unconditionally" reopen girls' schools. The organization also demanded accountability from the Taliban for their actions.
It has been over 850 days since the Taliban prohibited female students above the sixth grade from attending school. The group also denies girls the right to attend university.
International organizations, including the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, along with many countries with Muslim-majority populations, have condemned the Taliban's ban on girls' education.
However, despite repeated domestic and international calls for the reopening of schools and universities for girls, the Taliban has not yielded to these requests.
