A national team on the up, Denmark could be considered the dark horse for the 2022 World Cup.
Following a semi-final run at Euro 2020 and impressive international results, the Danes have reason to believe they can go far in Qatar.
But can the Denmark national team go all the way and add a World Cup to their trophy cabinet?
Recent Form
Judging by Denmark’s 2022/23 Nations League form, they have the quality to take on some of the biggest teams.
In a challenging group with Croatia, France and Austria, Denmark finished second, with 12 points from a possible 18.
Impressive wins also came during the competition. Kasper Hjulmand’s side defeated reigning world champions France twice to showcase their capabilities.
World Cup qualifying was also a breeze for the Denmark national team where they won nine, scored 31 and conceded just four goals.
Key Players
Central to Denmark’s strong recent form is a close-knit squad with excellent tactical knowledge and skill.
Generally, Hjulmand has selected a regular team of some of the biggest stars in European football.
In defence Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen and AC Milan centre-back, Simon Kjær are difficult to break down. The pair also provide an exceptional experience with 180 caps between them.
The Midfield duo of Christian Eriksen and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg also have the exceptional quality to create chances. While the talented attackers, including Kasper Dolberg, Mikkel Damsgaard and Jesper Lindstrom have been consistent at the club level this season.
If Denmark remains injury free, then the side could enjoy a run to the quarter-finals or semi-finals.
But Denmark also pushed England to extra time in a tense Euro 2020 semi-final last year, and Hjulmand’s side could be the underdogs to go all the way in Qatar.
