In 2022, AI development saw a rapid rise in the use of text-to-image generators powered by artificial intelligence, as well as an increase in training computation which enabled AI systems to become more powerful. AI algorithms were able to approach individual tasks with a small degree of variability, and companies such as Google, Facebook (Meta) and Amazon invested billions of dollars into AI research. DeepMind's CEO also identified language models as set to improve in 2022.
Although AI has a long way to go before reaching human-level intelligence, the World Economic Forum has identified cybercrime as potentially posing a greater risk than terrorism as machines take over more of our lives.
The challenge for AI is to find a good way to combine all of the world's vast scientific and technological knowledge with deep learning. The World Economic Forum established a crowdsourced digital platform to deliver impact at scale in order to ensure the ethical development of artificial intelligence.
