Hormones, the 'chemical messengers' of our body travel to different parts of the body and control many functions and processes, including sleep cycles, appetite, heart function, growth and reproduction, and more! Left see how For good health, we need our hormones to be produced in the exact way and correct amounts required by the body. Too little, too much or an inappropriate production of hormones will stop the body from functioning as well as it should, showing signs of imbalance and leading to various health concerns.
1 Reproductive Function - estrogen & progesterone. Estrogen and progesterone regulate the menstrual cycle, ovulation, and pregnancy. Hormonal imbalances can lead to infertility, menstrual irregularities, or reproductive disorders.
2 Digestion - prostaglandin and progesterone. Increased prostaglandin levels during menstrual cycle can contribute to bowel changes. Lower level of progesterone can impact the digestive system.
3 Weight and Appetite - leptin, ghrelin, & insulin. Hormones like leptin, ghrelin, and insulin play a role in regulating appetite and body weight. Leptin, produced by fat cells, helps signal satiety and regulate energy balance. Ghrelin, known as the "hunger hormone, " stimulates appetite. Insulin, released by the pancreas, regulates blood sugar levels and can impact hunger and food cravings. Hormonal imbalances can contribute to conditions such as obesity or eating disorders.
4 Sleep - cortisol and melatonin. Cortisol levels spike in the morning to help you wake up and melatonin spikes at night to help you sleep. Imbalance in them can cause disbalance in your circadian rhythm and sleep disorders.
5 Skin - estrogen, progesterone, & testosterone. Fluctuations in these hormones can have an impact on skin, such as causing hormonal acne. High levels of cortisol can also cause inflammation and occasionally cause inflammatory skin conditions like psoriasis.
Although we can't "control" our hormones, but we can certainly do things to influence them.
