Whether you have touched up your grey roots or switched out your natural hair to a bright burgundy hair colour, with a few tweaks to your hair care routine, you can improve not only the health of your hair but also increase the vibrancy of your new shade for longer.
Here are tips to prevent your hair colour from fading ;
1 Use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners - Sulphates can strip away color, so opt for products specifically designed for colored hair.
2 Wash your hair less frequently - Frequent washing can lead to color fading, so try to extend the time between washes. It is no rocket science – the more frequently you wash your hair, the quicker the hair colour will fade.
3 Rinse with cool water - A hot shower at the end of the day sure sounds relaxing but did you know that washing your hair in hot water is a one-way ticket to faded hair colour? Hot water opens the hair cuticles, allowing color molecules to escape. Rinse with cool water to help seal the cuticles and lock in color.
4 Apply UV protection - UV rays can cause color fading, so use hair products with UV protection or wear a hat when exposed to the sun.
5 Limit heat styling - Give your locks a break from the hair styling tools if you want to hold on to your coloured hair for longer. Excessive use of heat styling tools can fade color. When possible, let your hair air dry or use low-heat settings.
6 Touch up roots when needed - If you've colored your hair, touch up your roots as they grow to maintain a consistent color.
