Egyptian Mummies have been very engrossing facet in learning Egyptian history and personally, it is one of my favourite parts in Egyptian history. It is so surprising and interesting at the same time that people belonging to such ancient times were so advanced technologically, preserving bodies whole.
The process is rather riveting. After the death, special priests work as embalmers, treating and wrapping the body. The first step is to remove all the body organs. The brain was pulled out with a hooked
instrument via the nostrils. Then all other organs were removed, from a cut through the left side of abdomen. The heart was kept in its place as it was believed to be the centre of one's being and intelligence.
Then the body was covered with Natron salt which has immense drying properties. Pockets of natron were inserted. After the body has dried, extra natron was removed and wrapping commenced.
The body was wrapped with hundreds of linen. Amulets were added to protect the dead from mishaps. Layers of resin were added with magical spells and charms. Then more linen was wrapped. Then it was ready for funeral.
