How the first Australian cricket team reached Great Britain in 1868.
Ten years after the Australian Aboriginal team toured Great Britain in 1868 the so called 1st Australian team came to Great Britain aboard 'City of Berlin' from New York having sailed aboard 'City of Sydney from Australia via Auckland, Honolulu and San Francisco without much interest from the public.
The team played an unbelievable, by todays tours, 37 matches and attracted great crowds wherever they played with one match in particular at The Oval against Surrey attracted 35,000 spectators over 2 days. The side left Liverpool on 18th September aboard 'City of Richmond. This must have been a wonderful tour for the players but without doubt very tiring.
