The US State Department says in a new report that the decisions of Donald Trump and Joe Biden to end the US military mission in Afghanistan had serious consequences for the continuity of the Afghan government and security in this country.
In this report, the actions of the Biden government have been severely criticized.
For security reasons, the US State Department has published only 23 pages of its 87-page report, which examined the country's actions during the fall of the previous Afghan government.
Criticizing the Trump and Biden administrations, part of the report says: "During both administrations, there was insufficient preparation at the senior level about the worst-case scenarios and how quickly they could happen."
The report was released before a long vacation, and critics say the Biden administration deliberately timed it now to avoid being questioned.
This report shows that the American authorities were not prepared for the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan and the diplomatic presence in this country.
The Washington Post, citing this report, writes that the usual diplomatic turnover in the summer of 2021 left matters in the hands of those who had only been in Afghanistan for a few days or weeks when Kabul fell to the Taliban and had no experience.
The report states: "The sudden departure of President Ghani from Kabul and the fall of the city to the Taliban surprised all observers with the speed with which it happened. Even the Afghans who were planning to leave could not find time to sell their property and settle their affairs."
"But there were alarming signs that the prospect of the Afghan government forces defending Kabul and resisting a negotiated transfer of power was fading," the report said.
The most criticism in this report is directed at the Biden administration, which was not prepared for the evacuation operation because thousands of Afghans who had served for the American forces were left in dangerous conditions..
