Hey Leo, I liked to read your perspective on this topic and I was able to learn more about pascals tweet and why it is not a “double standard”. Well now that I have done a little more research and listened to Gina Caranos interview with Ben Shapiro on what she meant by her tweets, I believe that she didn’t step too far with her last tweet that got her fired. In the interview Carano says that she meant to bring people together and help us to recognize that before the holocaust the Nazis turned the germans on their own Jewish neighbors before the Nazi party started to kill the jews. Similarly, Carano stated that she wanted to convey that to stop evil acts - like the Nazis killing 6 million jews - to happen in society we should start by being kind towards our neighbors, especially now with all the contention with differing political opinions.
Also I now better understand what Pascal was attempting to convey in his tweet about the Mexican immigrants, however, I would like to add that this statement seems to be inaccurate. First of all, the photo Pascal used in his tweet was actually first used in the LA times that was captioned, “Palestinian children waiting to get food in a soup kitchen”. While this does not invalidate his argument he is trying to share, there is a difference between killing 6 million Jews because of their religious practice and detaining children because they came to America illegally. I am not saying that detaining children is right - I think it is wrong and cruel that a child should have to experience that - but I think that it is a unworthy comparison he made of the way the USA deal with Mexican immigrants who crossed the border illegally to the Nazis killing 6 million jews. I believe he should be held to the same standard that they are using with Gina Carano. I hope this gives more evidence and perspective on this issue and I hope I was not disrespectful.
