"I didn’t see one moment when I thought, Daniil has a chance to win," Patrick Mouratoglou
Daniil Medvedev suffered yet another Grand Slam final defeat, his fifth in total as he lost to Jannik Sinner in five sets. The Russian suffered a similar fate as compared to 2022 Australian Open, where he led two sets before Rafael Nadal scripted a great comeback.
Jannik Sinner came back from two sets behind to claim an epic win. Patrick Mouratoglou, former coach of Serena Williams, explained that once Daniil Medvedev let his guard down after the second set, there was no chance of him defeating Jannik Sinner.
“When Sinner has room to play, it’s a different story. He started to hit the ball much better and Daniil started to run more. From that point to the end of the match, I didn’t see one moment when I thought, Daniil has a chance to win, not one moment,” he said.
"The physical factor played a role for sure. It’s also about his willingness to continue to take a lot of risks when he was closer to the finish line. It’s not that easy," he said. "It’s the, ‘I’m getting closer to the finish line, do I back up little bit and still maybe it’s gonna work?’ But it’s not working."
