I hear u
Commenting you’re fat or oh damn, you have facial hair, are you a man or what. Comments like these are easily passed by people, without realizing the real reason why and what someone is really going through.
Today 1/10 women in the world are suffering from a hormonal disorder called PCOD ( Polycystic Ovarian Disease) or PCOS ( Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, but the conversation and awareness among the people and even the Doctors is very little or nil.
For every woman, the experience and symptoms of PCOD/PCOS vary, and the journey and experience can be absolutely different from one another. Although there is no exact reason known for the cause of PCOS/PCOD there can be factors like excess insulin, genetic, low-grade inflammation, excess androgen, and environmental conditions.
The most common symptoms PCOS/ PCOD are:
-Irregular periods
-Weight gain
-Fatigue
-Unwanted hair growth (excessive facial hair)
-Thinning hair on the head
-Acne
-Mood changes
-Sleep problems
-Infertility
-Depression
As there are so many symptoms associated with PCOS/PCOD it gets very difficult to treat them all, even the medical industry doesn't have an absolute cure for the condition and Doctors focus solely just on symptoms, and medication is given accordingly, and you’re told to 'go and lose weight, which is not really a piece of great advice, as PCOD/PCOS as a condition is too deep-rooted and complex.
Women are immediately prescribed birth control for their PCOS/PCOD without being educated on why and what will happen the moment they stop taking it, sometimes the symptoms are often worse than before, once/if they stop.
Real PCOS treatment can lie in lifestyle modification which can help in reducing inflammation and regulate blood sugar levels, thus, helping to balance out any hormonal imbalances. All helping to reduce PCOS symptoms.
The Journey of every woman with PCOS/ PCOD is unique and it can't be compared, everybody has a story of their own. And different things work for everybody. Understanding and accepting your body, staying positive and focusing on good things, and being active and sleeping on time are few things we can do, and fight and battle with PCOS/PCOD.
