Marizanne Kapp said that she has gone through lots of ups and downs over the last 12 months or so. The South Africa all-rounder is currently playing for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and has played a crucial part for them thus far.
Kapp became the Player of the Match after DC defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by eight wickets on Monday at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. The speedster got the wickets of Yastika Bhatia and Nat Sciver-Brunt and finished with figures of 4-0-13-2.
Kapp recalled the times when her spouse Dane van Niekerk was about to announce her retirement from international cricket. Back on March 11, Kapp picked up a five-wicket haul against Gujarat Giants (GG) after which she became emotional in the team bus.
“The whole past year has been a struggle. The day when I took a fifer, I was crying in the bus on my way as I knew Dane was retiring. So, it’s been tough, but again, Jesus Christ has been good to me, especially through those hard patches.
DC make me feel like I am at home: Marizanne Kapp
Kapp said that it took a bit of time for her to find her groove. The veteran has scored 125 runs at an average of 41.66 and picked up nine wickets from seven games at an economy rate of 5.71. Kapp also lauded the DC team environment for making her feel at home.
“In the first few games, I was all over the place and I was searching for the right line and lengths. In the last few matches, it has been more natural and I hope it continues until the end of the tournament.
“I have to mention my team as well. They make it so easy for me. I’ve always been a shy person. I’ve felt like I am so comfortable with these girls and management. Delhi Capitals make me feel like I am at home.
