If you are traveling to Korea or recently moved to live there, you will most likely go to a restaurant to eat, but it is not that easy. The way you order food is what determines Koreans’ impression of you!
In order not to look foolish, follow the following methods. Eating food the Korean way will make you look like a real Korean.
Note: These methods are for traditional Korean restaurants only and you may not be able to do them in foreign restaurants there.
First: Sit where you want. In most Korean restaurants, you will not find a host there who will tell you where to sit. If you find a place that is not vacant, you can sit there.
Second: Get the attention of the restaurant staff. Getting attention is the most important step in getting food. What you have to do is look for a button on your table. Once you press the button, they will come immediately.
If you do not find the button, do not ever think about clapping your hands or saying, “Waiter,” or even “garson.” Just do like the Koreans in a nice way and say, “Please - Jiujiwa.” Be courteous and confident.
Note: The waiter or waitress there is only involved in community service. They are not servants so you should call them accordingly.
