Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was receiving a lot of hate from the away fans after he celebrated City’s equaliser in front of Liverpool’s player Kostas Tsimikas and also bizarrely shaked the hands of Arthur Melo. After the match, he was quick to react to this allegation and said that he wasn’t trying to be "disrespectful" through his celebration at all. during Manchester City's thrashing of Liverpool on Saturday.
He jokingly apologised after the match saying, “I was happy and I said [to Tsimikas] how nice our goal was. No come on. I’m so sorry. Ask him if I lack respect, ask Tsimikas. I celebrate the goal the way I do with my son. I’m so sorry. Do you think it’s a lack of respect? Ah ok, I’m so sorry!”
Man City's win will keep them on track of league-leaders Arsenal who also had a great weekend winning against Leeds United. But situations have gone from bad to worse for Liverpool as they would now have to depend on other teams for Champions League qualification.
Jurgen Klopp looked very dejected after the match and had a lot of things to say regarding his team’s performance against City. He said, "Four performances were okay, the two midfielders, Hendo [Jordan Henderson] and Fab [Fabinho], worked a lot, Cody [Gakpo] and Ali [Alisson] and that is very difficult. If you want to get something here, 14 or 15 players have to be on top of their game and that was not the case”
This win would take Guardiola’s men to 64 points and they are now 8 points behind Arsenal with a game in hand but it will be very tough for the Men in Sky Blues to lift the league title considering the form the Gunners are in this season. The only positive things can be City’s goal difference which might help them in the long run.
