I am Pinki Kalani and I’m working with CFAR . I am a cluster coordinator and we’re working in 10 grampanchayats of Kishan Garg in Ajmer district in Rajasthan .

 Our main work is about prevention of domestic violence, prohibition of child marriage, girl child education.

We also work towards prevention of persecution of women in the name of witchcraft-Although the cases are less but in some areas people still believe in such superstition.

Since our project started, we have observed domestic violence cases are more, either women are married as children and when they grow up their husbands don’t want them hence the abuse starts or marriages of atta Satta (exchange)which generally are against will. There are also cases were brides are bought and treated as slaves .

 Currently I have a case of a lady from Bihar she has three kids and she says that she got married through a marriage broker for a amount that was given to her parents. The precondition was she would not keep in touch with her family. Most of these women are treated as slaves used for producing children and doing household chores. She says her mother in law gives her two dry rotis a day and not even clothes enough to cover herself . Her condition is pathetic.

 She is beaten daily, she face domestic violence everyday by her husband and mother in law. I met her for the first time last week . We can work to put her in a naari niketan there is no provision to keep children there . She will be separated from

them . I am trying to understand her situation better so that she can be helped.

 The dilemma is these womens generally don’t want to leave their husbands because they have nowhere to go. I am trying to get her Adhar card so that she could get some help from

government schemes . I get very emotional seeing her plight and we are working out a way to rescue and rehabilitate her .
