In Varanasi, nearly one kilometre long Signature Bridge to be built parallel to the Ganga at a distance of 50 metres from the Malviya Bridge will be the first bridge in the country. No bridge with a six-lane road and four-lane railway track has been built on any river in the country. The Railways has finalised its DPR after overcoming the paperwork hurdles in the construction of the Signature Bridge, which will be completed by 2028 at a cost of Rs 2500 crore. Recently, the Central Government has also given its approval. Railway officials are waiting for the budget. The country's first Signature Bridge will be ready on the Ganga by 2028.
The construction of a new Signature Bridge is proposed due to the completion of the Malviya Bridge connecting Varanasi to Chandauli, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra and Bihar. The Malviya Bridge was constructed in 1887 during the British rule. The movement of heavy vehicles and buses on the Malviya Bridge has been banned for about a decade and a half.Railway officials associated with the Signature Bridge project said that the construction of a nearly one kilometre long Signature Bridge on the Ganga is proposed. The process of budget and tender etc. will start within one to two months
