World Heritage Convention will be held in India for the first time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi on July 21.
The convention will run from July 21 to July 31. Around 2000 delegates from 150 countries will attend the meeting of the World Heritage Committee.
The Ministry of Culture has launched a website dedicated to the convention, which will also feature exhibitions on topics such as railways, heritage and handicrafts at Bharat Mandapam. To enhance visitors' experience, digital domes will showcase archaeological sites like Ellora and Kailash, providing detailed information about these historical landmarks.
Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat highlighted the significance of this event, marking it as the first major event since the formation of the government under PM Modi for the third time.
Sharing details about the convention, Shekhawat said, "We will develop by respecting the heritage. This is the first mega event of the government after the G-20. So far, 1,199 heritage sites have been identified for preservation. Their maintenance will be discussed in this meeting."
This convention follows the G-20 summit that took place last year, marking another major international event in India. Discussions will focus on the preservation and maintenance of 1,199 identified heritage sites. As a member of the World Governing Committee, India is chairing the World Heritage Convention for the first time.
The event offers India a platform to display its rich cultural heritage and highlight the importance it places on preserving historical sites. Ahead of the convention, the government has also initiated a folk art project to celebrate traditional arts and crafts.
