Today Odisha's Naveen Patnaik completed fourth year of his fifth term as Chief Minister of the state.
Serving as the Chief Minister for 24 years, but just not Patnaik, India have had many Chief Ministers who served their states for long tenures.
Pawan Kumar Chamling of Sikkim has been the longest serving Chief Minister in India. He was in office for 24 years and 166 days from the year 1994 to 2019.
Just few more days than Naveen Patnaik, surely the Odisha CM will beat that and is in process of becoming the longest serving Chief Minister in India.
After Chamling and Patnaik, is West Bengal's Jyoti Basu. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader served the state as a Chief Minister for 23 years from 1977 to 2000.
What's interesting to see is after Basu, the longest serving Chief Minister is of Arunachal Pradesh's Gegong Apang, who served for 22 years but at different time periods and was in different political parties. He served as a CM from 1980 to 1989 then from 2003 till 2007.
