Indian Army runners dominate Andaman Island ultramarathon, Gurung creates a new record in 50km
Indian Army runners made a clean sweep in the third edition of the Tuffman Andaman Island ultramarathon held on Sunday.
The army runners clinched all the top-three positions in the men’s 50km ultra run.
The ultra and half marathon was organised by the sports endurance company Tuffman and the event was powered by the Seashell Hotels & Resorts.
Indian Army’s Suman Gurung clocked 03:31:06 to grab the top position in the 50km ultramarathon. Gurung also created a new record in the 50km ultra run category organised by Tuffman across all locations and terrains.
Indian Army runners Manoj Pun (03:46:18) and Jaswinder Singh (04:11:02) finished second and third, respectively.
“Because of very high humidity, Andaman Island ultramarathon becomes a tough run. And clocking a record time in 50km run here is a big achievement and I am happy for Gurung, who ran brilliantly throughout the run and finished at top of the podium,” says Tuffman's founder Sanjay Mangla. “As compared to the previous two editions of the run in Andaman, this time we got the maximum participation and hope next year the number of participants will cross 1000.”
Over 700 runners competed in the ultra, half-marathon and 10km run.
In the men’s 30km run, Raj Kumar Serma (02:02:21) finished first, while Lila Bahadur Gurung (02:03:21) and Lovepreet Singh (02:10:41) finished second and third, respectively.
Priyanka Das (03:25:08) was a lone woman runner in the 30 km run.
