Indian team got Rahul Dravid as its captain. Things looked different from the time Dravid became the captain. He is famously known as ‘The Wall’ and ‘Mr. Dependable’. Dravid's achievements as a captain were not spectacular, but he was regarded as a reliable captain. He built the foundation of Indian Cricket Team. He gave up on a chance to become T20 captain and appointed Mahendra Singh Dhoni for this role. Dravid resigned from being the captain in all formats after the historic win in England.
With his resignation, ODI captaincy went to Dhoni, but test captaincy went to Anil Kumble. For the first time in Indian Cricket History, we saw the concept of split captaincy. Soon, due to Kumble’s finger injury which cause him eleven stiches, he shockingly retired from the world of cricket.
MS Dhoni than became the captain for all formats. The captain everybody wanted, desired and aspire to become. Dhoni won India, the T20 world cup, ODI world cup and Champions trophy. Something no one could do. On his 90th test match, Dhoni announced his retirement from test cricket giving his test captaincy to Virat Kohli. Soon he retired from all formats and Virat Kohli became the captain of Indian Cricket.
Virat Kohli has quite a good record as captain when it comes to Test cricket. He has won 40 test matches out of 68 and led India from seventh to the top position in the Test cricket charts. There were lot of comparisons with Rohit Sharma and his form in captaincy as he has won most trophies in IPL for his team Mumbai Indians. Sadly, he could not win any ICC trophy which led cricket fans and management humiliate him enough to drop captaincy.
Now Rohit Sharma is the Indian Captain. His performance as a captain is good, but still, he could not manage to win Asia Cup 2022 as well as T20I World Cup 2022. He has just started his role from December 2021, let’s see how well it goes from here.
