The Indian top court on Friday dismissed an appeal that was filed challenging a clean chit given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi — who was then chief minister of Gujarat — and others in connection with the 2002 riot cases.
Indian Express reported the appeal was filed
by Zakia Jafri, wife of Congress MP Ehsan Jafri who was killed during riots.
A SC bench, headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar and comprising Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar, said the appeal filed by Zakia Jafri is "devoid of merits and deserved to be dismissed".
The SC bench upheld the decision of the Ahmedabad metropolitan magistrate to accept the closure report submitted by a special investigation team – which was appointed by the Supreme Court. The court rejected the protest petition filed by Jafri against accepting the report.
