The unsung hero, Arnold Dix is the man who conducted the Uttarakhand tunnel rescue operation 24/7 and saved lives of 41 Indians trapped in Silkyara tunnel since November 12.
He is an international tunneling expert and roped in as the government pulled out all stops to rescue the trapped Indian workers.
Dix, who heads the Geneva-based International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (Geneva), is known for taking legal, environmental, political and ethical risks related to underground construction.
Earlier today, the Australian expert said that he felt good amid reports that the rescue operation was nearing completion as rat-hole mining experts managed to dig through the last few metres of rubble.
The rescue operation is now complete with the evacuation of all 41 workers.
"The mountain has told us one thing, that is to be humble," Dix told reporters this morning.
"I feel good. I've never said it before... The drilling along the top of the mountain is coming along perfectly. In the tunnel, it is coming along very well. So, I feel good," said the expert who joined rescue ops on November 20.
Well, the successful rescue was hailed as nothing short of an ‘ICC title win,’ and the internet has been resonating with gratitude, directed not only towards God for making it all possible but also towards Australian tunnelling expert Arnold Dix, who played a pivotal role in the operation and provided essential technical support on the ground.
“He is the only Australian who gave us good news this November" remarked a user on the micro-blogging site ‘X,’ drawing poignant parallels to India's loss at the World Cup.
