Well deserved!👏🇮🇳
Team India booked their place in the semi-finals of the Olympics for the first time after 49 years after defeating Great Britain by 3-1. Dilpreet Singh, Gujrant Singh & Hardik Singh were the goal scorers. After having lost in the quarter finals in 2016 to the silver medallists Belgium by 1-3, India’s men’s hockey team have rebuilt, redesigned themselves & are set to reclaim their positions as Olympic medallists. India’s resilience has to be appreciated given the 7-1 defeat to Australia which must have been very demoralising for the team as well as the coach.
Hindi Commentator Siddharth Pandey got emotional and broke down in tears after the final whistle. India is now set to face world champions Belgium tomorrow at 7am in the semi-final and if they win against them then they will have to beat either Australia or Germany to win their first gold medal since 1980. It would be a huge redemption for the Indian Hockey Community if the men’s hockey team are able to win a medal in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics given the fact that they failed to qualify in the 2008 Beijing Games and coming last in the 2016 Rio Olympics. They have however improved their performances consistently & are currently ranked as world number 3.
