Inglorious Basterds is another gift by Quentin Tarantino to the popular culture. It is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and in this he tries to punish the Nazis and rewrite history in a way only he can. The film stars Brad Pitt as Lieutenant Aldo Raine
who is the head of the unit "Basterds" of the American army, they are hunt and kill Nazis, most of the personnel are jews. The conflict in the movie is about revenge, justice, holocaust, displacement and survival.
Shoshanna at a young age sees her family murdered by Nazis headed by Hans Landa. This scene is horrific and the dialogue is one that can only be written by Tarantino as it adds tension into the scene. Many years later we see Lt Raine planing a mission to kill Hitler in France at a movie opening. Shoshana has changed her name to Emmanuelle Mimieux. She operates the cinema where the movie will be premiering and has made it a mission to burn the whole place down. Hans Landa is the head of security for the premiere. Raine's plans has a bit of a problem as Lt. Hicox (supposed to be the frontman) and the some other "Basterds" in an ecounter with german soldiers die in a gunfight while pretending to be german soldiers themselves.
Raine has to now infiltrate the cinema with two other
"Basterds" and act as Italian even though he can't speak it properly. Bridget is their cover who is a popular actress among the Germans. Hans Landa upon seeing and talking to them easily understands that they are spies and holds them prisoners without telling anyone else. Landa makes a deal with the American Army to let the plan go through. Both Shoshana and the Basterds plan is successful as they are able to kill Hitler and other important Nazis in the theatre. In the end Raine kills Hans' driver and marks him on the forehead with the Nazi Swastika.
The film is Tarantino's way of rewriting history in his movies as he so often does and leaving a social commentary on the time period with his voice through cinema.
