Hi! Reading through your response I realize my opinions mostly align with yours when you share how Carano should’ve stepped back, that people should be entitled to freedom of speech, etc. But, your comparison of Pascal’s post to Carano’s doesn’t highlight a double-standard.
Pascal: We see many common threads to Holocaust Jews and immigrants now. For instance if we look to Nazi Germany, we will find that tactics used back then were similar to now. Let me explain: Immigrants hear stories from one another because they’re cut off from outside information. The strategy here is to encourage them to self-deport. This, too, is familiar to the November 1938 pogrom of German Jews. More than 30,000 were rounded up and sent to concentration camps, where they were subjected to inhumane conditions and soon released. Nikolaus Wachsmann, a professor of European history at the university of London, explains that the release of these prisoners made sense from the regime’s perspective, because the camps had served their purpose- forcing Jews out of Germany. If you notice the date of the Germans employing this tactic, you’d realize that genocide itself wouldn’t begin for another few years. This was the prelude to the killing of 6 million Jews. And in America we have seen history’s tendency to repeat itself. And given more time to act, we may have seen that repetition continue and spiral into an actual extermination of immigrants. So, that’s why Pedro Pascal’s post was logical as it was based on patterns from history.
Carano: I think we can determine the credibility behind it with one question: Is the GOP being held in cages?
I know you acknowledged that these are different circumstances described in both posts, and I agree. But I think it’s not fair to bring both posts down to the same level, as one is playing a pseudo victim, while the other recognizes common threads between now and the past.
Finally, people should believe what they want. But I think we both agree that when it comes to one’s beliefs, we would much rather believe in reality right? Thanks for reading!
