Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to continue fight against militant group Hamas. Netanyahu said that there will be no ceasefire in Gaza until the "elimination" of Hamas.
"We won't stop fighting until we've achieved all the objectives we've set ourselves: the elimination of Hamas, the release of our hostages and the end of the threat from Gaza," Netanyahu said in a statement.
The Israeli PM's statement came after Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh travelled to Egypt's capital Cairo on Wednesday. In Cairo, Haniyeh will have talks with Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel to discuss a possible truce in Gaza, reported AFP.
The UN Security Council is all set to vote on a resolution calling for a pause in the conflict, diplomatic sources told AFP.
Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces were attacking Hamas militants "everywhere" in Gaza. "Anyone who thinks we will stop is not connected to reality. We are attacking Hamas with fire - an inferno," he said as quoted by AFP.
However, the Israeli Ambassador to the US has revealed that the Jewish state is ready for another pause in fighting. Speaking to CNN, the US Envoy stated that Israel is ready to implement a week-long truce to bring back more hostages.
